Lead designer for the Lazy Summer app, a hands-off yield management app, reached 83M TVL and has 1,000+ active users in three months.

My role

Led end-to-end design, visuals, graphics, and handoff for the app and the marketing website.

  • The high bar to get started is due to the lack of a clear picture of the yield ecosystem
  • High costs to sign multiple transactions and pay potential fees across different protocols
  • High effort and risk to participate, which leads to lower earnings

Problems

Target users

  • The Conservative DeFi Native User: Comfortable on-chain but skeptical of scams and smart contracts, cynical about the cumbersome crypto UX.
  • The DeFi Curious New Retail User: Likely to show up in the next 4-12 Months, used to Fintech experiences and ease.

Research & Ideation

Talking to users to understand pain points
The Product Owner conducted a few user interviews to find people’s pain points and the problems in the existing market.
Understand the direct and indirect competitors’ pros and cons
Analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the notable apps in passive yield so that we can learn the good things and avoid the same mistakes.
Created the user flows
Ideated and visualized the user flows by creating low-fidelity wireframes. Combine the good parts of each idea into the final version.

Design strategy

Keep it simple
  • Utilize a well-structured information hierarchy to avoid overwhelming users
  • Use accordions to hide second-priority information
Real-time Simulate
  • Preview estimated earnings in real-time
  • Transparent fees to eliminate worries and uncertainty
Straightforward onboarding
  • Create an account /wallet in a similar way in Web2 to lower the learning curve
  • Provide a clear status in each step of opening an account
Design with mobile-first mindset

Launch result

TVL reached over $50M in a month and is now over $80M with 1.4K active users.
